The Real Problem with HB 4132 – Fertilizer for Kudzu

HB 4132 expands the existing use of Student Health Surveys in public schools by:

–       Connecting the Oregon Health Authority and the Department of Education in building the surveys and evaluating the data they provide

–       Providing stable and independent funding for the surveys

–       Expanding the topics of the surveys to include physical, mental, emotional and social factors

–       Expanding the audience and sequencing of the surveys (ages 10-20)

The surveys can be opted out of and are anonymous. The target is not individual students per se, but the collection of data to drive more programs. And that’s the real problem. The statists know not the God of the Bible, and, gee, SOMEBODY has to run everything!

The surveys will also provide an excuse for why test scores are so low. What do you expect from kids who are being repressed by Christian values at home?

In Whittaker Chamber’s classic book Witness, he wrote that a communist slogan was “the future belongs to those who make the best measurements.” Social measurements will always reveal some problems, and the State then sees every problem as a nail for its hammer. When the swinging hammer breaks things and makes them worse, more measurements will show more deficiencies, and, Voila!, more nails for the hammer! This has been the operative principle behind, for instance, increasing homelessness funding and public school spending.

Basic Rights Oregon, long a foe of Biblical sexual norms, testified in favor of HB4132. They are quite happy that sexual identity and gender issues will be part of the surveys. The data, of course, will show the need for more money and a larger part of the curriculum to address these pet issues of BRO. Kids will get more and more confused, the data will show that, and yes, Ethel, more funding is surely indicated.

We support those who are calling for the bill to specifically exclude home schools. But don’t miss the real problem of HB 4132. It is fertilizer for statist kudzu, increasing the long tentacles of this invasive species which slowly but surely chokes out liberty.
