I Saw The Kingdom Last Night

Written for Christmas, 2018

“Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end” Isaiah 9:7

I saw the kingdom last night. In the midst of liberal attempts to embroil the nation and attack our Constitution, the Presidency, the rule of law, and the moral fabric of our nation, my wife and I attended a private Christian school’s Christmas program. It was the most refreshing and encouraging thing we’ve done in a long time. There they were – 30 or so young people singing Christmas carols, new and old. They sang the Savior’s praises and spoke of His advent to end oppression and extend His blessings the whole world over. They sang of simple faith, and of their commitment to follow the Savior in all that they do.

Simple songs, simple performances, reflecting the joy of the season, and the meaning of Christmas, and why it is such a joyous time of year. As I watched these kids of varying talent, and their parents and relatives smiling with joy and pride, I thought “this is the Kingdom.” Yes, the political waters are roiling as the Christian roots of our culture and government are attacked. I have committed my life to talking about the relevance of the Bible to government.

But here, in a small Christian school, filled with people going about their lives as followers of Jesus and the transmission of that faith to their kids, is where the growth of the kingdom occurs. Don’t fail to recognize in such gatherings the fulfillment of Isaiah 9: 7. Don’t fail to see the progression of the kingdom and peace in men and women proclaiming the crown rights of Christ in every sphere, including the political.

Don’t miss the tremendous encouragement of simple programs with jittery kids doing their best to sing the praises of the One we celebrate at Christmas. Don’t fail to discern the presence of the Kingdom that such gatherings demonstrate in thousands of such programs that are held this time of year. And don’t fail to give thanks for this, and to rest with joy in the manifestation of His Kingdom.

“Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.” Isaiah 9:7
