Assessment results for Oregon schools are out. Shamefully, the percentage of students proficient in math and English language arts are down from last year’s abysmal numbers. In spite of continuous increases in funding, test scores actually continue to go down.
Only 39% of Oregon’s kids are grade proficient in math, down one point from last year. Only 53% of Oregon students were proficient in English language arts, down 1.5% from a year ago. The large majority of kids are failing.
One cannot overestimate the incompetence of government systems with little or no competition, particularly when teachers must be part of a union. But if the goal of schools is to produce progressive future voters, the schools must be said to be succeeding. The rise of acceptance of socialism, for instance, can be directly tied to the anti free market propaganda in Oregon’ schools. The same could be said of the rise in radical environmentalist activism. The result is a tremendous threat to future liberty.
Reading, writing and ‘rithmetic are vital to liberty. But in Oregon schools, the 3 Rs are a fail, while radical anti-liberty progressivism is succeeding. All paid for by our taxes. We are funding our destruction. These days, liberty dies in the classroom.
